Chapter 477
Isabella instinctively furrowed her brow but stayed quiet.
It was clear she was starting to suspect Nolan.
Olivia, on the other hand, was stunned when she heard Nolan's name.
"What?" she blurted out, thinking she must have misheard. "Did you just say Nolan? But isn't he Michael's brother? How could he be the company's mole? Plus, he's part of the Brown family. He has a stake in the family business. Why would he sabotage it? Aaron, are you sure you haven't made a mistake?"
In the past, Isabella would have trusted Nolan without a second thought, just like Olivia still did.
She had once seen him as a brother.
But now, she had to rethink everything she thought she knew about him.
She had to accept that the kind and considerate Nolan she once knew was gone.
His heart had been consumed by hatred, and he was determined to take back the Brown Group. Having found a weakness in Michael's defenses, he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.
The company's fate didn't matter to him.
Or rather, the company's losses were insignificant compared to his desire to reclaim the Brown Group.
Nolan was cunning and capable. With his skills, he could easily restore the company to its former glory, no matter how much it had lost.
Aaron didn't argue with Olivia. Instead, he laid out his perspective.
"Before the Auroria project incident, Mr. Brown contacted me. He said he hadn't signed or stamped the documents sent by Auroria, yet a signed contract was sent out, bearing his signature. This means that the person not only had access to the CEO's office but could also forge Mr. Brown's signature convincingly."
These points alone might not have pointed directly to Nolan.
What raised Aaron's suspicion was Nolan's resignation letter.
"The day after Mr. Brown left the company, I submitted my resignation to the HR department. As the CEO's special assistant, only Nolan could sign off on it. Yet, the Adri family knew the outcome before I did. Doesn't that strike you as odd?"
Isabella glanced at Renee, who was sitting by the bed. Seeing no reaction from her, Isabella knew Aaron was telling the truth.
No wonder Aaron had been so severely injured. The Adri family, having learned he was no longer with the Brown family and thus of no use to them, had ruthlessly pursued him and Renee.
The Adri family truly had no regard for anyone.
The more Olivia listened, the more incredulous she became, though she sensed something was off.
"Aaron, while your reasoning is sound, aren't you forgetting one crucial point?"
"Nolan is disabled. His legs don't work. He needs someone to push his wheelchair wherever he goes. If he were the mole, how could he have taken the documents without anyone noticing?"
Aaron fell silent.
He realized Olivia had a point.
Nolan couldn't walk. If he entered the company, someone would have noticed.
Unless he had help from within the company.
The deeper Aaron thought, the more shocked he became.
At that moment, Isabella spoke up, clearing their confusion.
"There's something you might not know. Nolan can actually stand on his own now. He told me he needed more time to fully recover, but I believe he's been able to walk normally for a while. He's just been hiding it from us."
Only today did Isabella truly see through Nolan's deceit.
His cunning was terrifying.
Aaron, struck by a sudden realization, blurted out, "Could it be that his disability was faked all along? Maybe his legs were never injured."
The wheelchair had been the perfect cover for Nolan.
Whatever he wanted to do, he could use his supposed disability to deflect suspicion.
Nolan was a living nightmare.
As the situation became clearer, Isabella had an epiphany.
No wonder Nolan never responded when she looked at his legs. She had always thought his change in demeanor was due to an accident or trauma, prompting his sudden return to the country.
But if even his disability was a lie, what else had he lied about?
For years, she had considered Nolan her best friend, even a brother.
It had all been one-sided.
Everything had been part of his plan. The Brown family, herself, even Michael's major mistakes were all under Nolan's control.
He had spent three years abroad, biding his time for revenge.
"But these are just our suspicions. We have no evidence. Even if we spoke out, who would believe us?" Olivia sighed.
Though she hadn't interacted much with Nolan, she had heard about him from Isabella.
Nolan was shrewd and resourceful. Without concrete evidence, he would never admit to anything.
Aaron turned to Isabella, taking a deep breath before asking seriously, "Isabella, if you had evidence against Nolan, what would you do?"
Would she help Michael or choose Nolan?
For others, this might be an easy question, but for Isabella, it was a difficult choice.
Hearing this, Olivia also looked at Isabella, curious about her decision.
Nolan and Isabella had known each other for many years. Their relationship was deeper than outsiders could imagine.
She wanted to know what Isabella would choose.
Renee, disliking how Aaron was "pressuring" Isabella, spoke up in her defense.
"Aaron, what do you mean by that? If Isabella had evidence, she would definitely side with you and Michael."
After all, Isabella loved Michael.
What was there to question?
But Aaron gently squeezed Renee's hand, signaling her to stop.
Isabella was momentarily speechless.
She and Nolan had known each other for over a decade. Their relationship was more than just friendship; it was like family.
She had always treated him like a brother.
Everyone in the Brown family knew about their close relationship. She had never hidden it.
Aaron's concern was understandable.
If she hadn't known Nolan's true nature, she wouldn't have been able to choose.
But now, she saw through Nolan's facade.
She would no longer protect him.
