Chapter 400
As soon as the words left her mouth, both Isabella and Aaron froze.
Aaron's face changed as he felt Renee's hand slip from his grasp.
He thought Renee was joking.
But the next second, Renee's words left his mind completely blank.
"Ms. Taylor, you misunderstood. Aaron and I are just friends. I don't like him, and I will never marry him!"
Aaron's heart felt like it was being squeezed and then released. He couldn't believe Renee would say such a thing.
She had feelings for him, didn't she?
How could things change so suddenly?
"Renee, you're lying to me, right?"
Aaron's face turned pale as he tightly held her hand, his anxiety reaching a fever pitch. "It's not like that, is it? My presence is making you feel pressured, right? You know I can wait. Please, don't say things like this to scare me."
Renee remained expressionless.
Aaron was truly panicking. "This can't be true. We were intimate last night. You admitted you were mine. You gave yourself to me. How could you not have feelings for me?"
"If you don't want to get married, I'll wait. I'll wait as long as it takes."
Renee just gave a mocking smile.
She looked at Aaron with eyes devoid of any emotion. "Aaron, we're adults. I don't want to be harsh, but last night was just a one-night stand. We should part ways now. If I, as a woman, don't care, why should you?"
With that, she pushed Aaron away and pulled her hand back.
Aaron's eyes turned red. "A one-night stand? Renee, is that really what you think?"
"Then what about all the times you said you loved me last night?"
Renee let out a cold laugh. "Aaron, you're almost thirty. You don't still believe everything said in bed, do you? Those were just words."
"To be honest, I was just in the mood last night and needed someone to satisfy my physical needs. You happened to be there. I have no feelings for you beyond that."
"From today on, don't come looking for me. Let's pretend we never met."
Renee decisively stood up and left. As she passed by Isabella, she paused and said apologetically, "I'm sorry for causing this mess, but I don't want to see him anymore. Could you please handle it, Ms. Taylor?"
Isabella had been stunned by the scene for a while.
Hearing Renee's request, she could only respond, "Okay."
Renee quickly left.
Isabella watched as Aaron's face visibly darkened.
She also wanted to know what had happened.
Just moments ago, Aaron and Renee were fine, hugging at the door. How did things change so quickly?
Could it be that Aaron's performance last night didn't satisfy Renee?
That didn't make sense. If there was a problem, they wouldn't have lasted until now.
Isabella quickly shook her head, trying to dispel the inappropriate thoughts.
Aaron was still here!
Since Renee had left the mess to her, she couldn't just ignore it.
Looking at the heartbroken Aaron in front of her, Isabella couldn't bear to say anything harsh. "Aaron, Renee might have her reasons. But since she said that, maybe you should leave."
"Mrs. Brown, am I just being used and discarded?"
Before Isabella could think of a response, Aaron's words left her stunned.
"What?"
Aaron looked at her with a forlorn expression, hoping for an answer.
Isabella hesitated. "Aaron, I didn't expect Renee to say those things either. But I believe she's not someone who plays with your feelings. Don't overthink it."
Renee was cold by nature, but she had good character.
But those words just now didn't seem like something she would say.
And even Isabella could see Renee's feelings for Aaron. How could she not like him?
"Aaron, is it possible that Renee isn't rejecting you but just doesn't want to rush into marriage? After all, it's a lifelong commitment."
Even now, Isabella was still trying to defend Renee.
She had to. Renee was her friend.
Who else would she protect?
Aaron sat on the couch, looking lost. "Did I push her too hard, making her feel pressured?"
"Or does she just want a casual relationship, not a lifelong commitment? Which of her words are true, and which are lies?"
At this point, Aaron didn't know what to think.
He even doubted if he deserved Renee.
Because from any angle, he was just an ordinary person.
It was normal for her to look down on him.
But what he couldn't understand was, last night, Renee was so gentle, shy, and compliant in bed.
Was it all fake?
"No, I need to ask her. She clearly said she liked me. How could she suddenly stop loving me?"
"Aaron!"
Isabella called out just in time. "Renee already said she doesn't want to see you. If you go to her now, there will be no chance for you two."
Her words successfully stopped Aaron in his tracks.
Isabella didn't want to be too harsh, so she sighed. "I don't know what happened between you two, but since she made this decision, she must have her reasons."
"If you still want to be with her, give her some time."
"Okay, I'll give her time."
Aaron nodded, looking defeated, keeping his head down to hide his pain. "Mrs. Brown, it's late. I'll head out now."
"Alright."
Isabella didn't stop him. She glanced at the bodyguards outside, signaling them to let Aaron leave.
Watching him walk away so dejectedly, Isabella sighed and looked upstairs, thinking about asking Renee what was going on.
Just then, a servant came in and said Atticus was back, and his car was outside.
Isabella paused, deciding to talk to Atticus first before finding Renee.
A moment later, Atticus appeared in the hall, relieved to see Isabella was okay.
"Isabella, where's the intruder? Did you catch him?"
Isabella instinctively looked outside and pointed cautiously. "He just left, Atticus. Didn't you see him?"
"Just left?"
Atticus was stunned. "What do you mean, he just walked out of the Wilson Family like that? What are these bodyguards doing?"
Seeing Atticus getting angry, Isabella quickly explained, "Atticus, don't blame them. Actually, the intruder last night was Aaron!"
