Chapter 407
Nolan saw everything clearly.
Even though he didn't care about the contents of the contract, Aiden's actions still hurt him.
He had been right all along.
In this family, his status was nowhere near comparable to Michael's.
The truth was right in front of him. To Aiden, Michael was his beloved grandson, while Nolan was just an insignificant outsider.
But Aiden didn't see it that way. He had always thought highly of Nolan.
When the Brown Family faced trouble and Aiden fell seriously ill, the responsibility of the company fell on Nolan, who had just graduated from college.
Nolan didn't complain at all and managed to keep the company afloat.
Nolan had once been a source of pride for Aiden.
But after that incident...
Aiden didn't know if he had truly made a mistake, causing Nolan to distance himself.
Nolan had been abroad for three years without visiting him once.
Now that Nolan had finally returned, he could no longer stand on his own two feet.
As his grandfather, how could Aiden not feel regret?
At least Nolan was still willing to be close to him, and that was enough.
"Nolan, you're not getting any younger. Did you meet anyone special while you were abroad? When will you bring her home for me to meet?"
"Don't worry, as long as you like her, her family background doesn't matter. I won't oppose it."
Now that Michael had driven Isabella away, Aiden's only great-grandson was gone too.
He had no choice but to shift his attention to Nolan. The house had been too quiet for too long; a happy event would bring some cheer.
Nolan didn't rush to respond. His gaze instinctively fell on his "immobile" legs.
He sighed softly. "Grandpa, I don't have any plans for that right now. Let's take it slow. I'm not in a hurry."
But in reality, the person he was waiting for was Isabella.
Michael was still refusing to sign the divorce papers. How could he bring Isabella back to the Brown Family for Aiden to meet?
Aiden, however, couldn't sit still when he heard Nolan wasn't in a hurry.
"Not in a hurry? You're already over thirty. If you don't hurry, it'll be too late. I see you're not taking this seriously. How about this: I'll find a few suitable girls for you to meet. You can have dinner and chat with them."
If it had been before, Aiden might not have focused on Nolan.
But now, he couldn't manage Michael anymore.
With Nolan back in the Brown Family, as a grandfather, he had to make plans for him. It was also a way to make up for his past guilt.
Nolan heard the word "matchmaking" and a faint, cold smile appeared on his lips, quickly disappearing.
"Grandpa, I have my own plans for this. You don't need to worry about it."
"Your own plans? Does that mean you already have someone in mind?"
Aiden immediately caught the key point, his eyes lighting up.
Seeing he couldn't hide it, Nolan decided to be straightforward. "Yes, I have someone I like. But I haven't confessed my feelings yet. I don't know if she wants to be with me. So, Grandpa, please don't introduce anyone to me."
"If she sees or hears about it, she might misunderstand."
Aiden's face lit up with a smile when he heard Nolan had someone he liked. "Alright, alright. I won't interfere. But you need to be proactive. Don't keep her waiting."
"Okay, Grandpa. I will tell her how I feel."
A smile flashed across Nolan's face.
If Aiden knew the person he was talking about was Isabella, he wondered if Aiden would still be smiling so happily.
But he didn't plan to reveal that.
He said he was going out for a walk and wheeled himself outside.
Earlier, he had seen Michael heading out. Michael had said he was going to the kitchen, but in reality, he was looking for some peace and quiet.
Sure enough, as soon as Nolan reached the hallway, he saw Michael standing in the shadows.
Before Nolan could say anything, Michael spoke up.
"Nolan, what's the point of this? You can't beat me openly, so you're resorting to underhanded tactics?"
Michael's face showed blatant sarcasm. "Do you think this will help you take my place and gain control of the company? Dream on."
Michael knew one thing for sure: if Aiden didn't want to hand the company over to him, what happened on his twentieth birthday wouldn't have occurred.
No matter what, he was the biggest beneficiary of that event.
Some things, coming from his mouth, would only seem insincere and hypocritical.
So, he never explained anything.
But that didn't mean Nolan could mess with him without consequence.
Unexpectedly, Nolan didn't get angry. Instead, he smiled and explained, "Michael, I haven't done anything. Why are you so worked up?"
Suddenly, as if he had thought of something, he looked at Michael.
"Do you think I peeked at the documents you gave Grandpa? Don't worry, Grandpa didn't let me see them. He didn't even touch me. If you don't believe me, you can ask him."
Michael didn't believe him. "Really? Then what did you and Grandpa talk about?"
Nolan's eyes flickered. "Grandpa is concerned about my personal life. He wants to find a few suitable candidates for me to marry."
At this point, he paused and looked directly at Michael.
"Do you think I should tell Grandpa that the person I want to marry is Isabella? What do you think his reaction would be?"
"Don't you dare!"
Michael was furious, his eyes turning sharp.
If Nolan dared to tell Aiden that, Michael would make sure he didn't leave the Brown Family today.
Seeing Michael so tense, Nolan felt satisfied.
He smiled and shrugged. "Don't be so angry. I was just joking. Don't worry, I only told Grandpa that I have someone I like, but I can't bring her home yet because it's not convenient for her right now."
As for why it wasn't convenient, that was something Michael would have to answer.
Michael's face darkened.
He hadn't expected Nolan to admit to Aiden that he had someone he liked.
Was he planning to confess to Isabella next?
If Isabella agreed, what would Michael do?
After lunch, Aiden called Michael into the study.
He had something to discuss with him privately.
Michael didn't think much of it, assuming it was about the company, and followed him in.
But Aiden's first question caught him off guard. "Nolan mentioned wanting to join the company. What do you think?"
Michael's expression immediately darkened.
The issue had to be addressed.
Now it was up to Aiden's attitude.
