Chapter 169

"Michael, what exactly are you up to?"

Isabella squinted her eyes and questioned, her tone extremely cold.

"What could I be up to? I just feel the same pain for Daniel as you do. You know it's not just Daniel who doesn't want us to divorce; it's hard to convince Grandpa too. Why don't we work together to solve this problem?"

Michael spoke sincerely, even mentioning Aiden in the end.

If it were before, Isabella would never believe these words could come out of his mouth.

He never considered how she had lived through these three years. If he really cared about these things, she wouldn't have reached the point of asking for a divorce.

But now, with Daniel's safety at stake, she had no other choice.

As long as Daniel could get better, she was willing to do anything.

Isabella tightened her grip and, after a moment, spoke to Michael, "Fine, I agree."

If acting could solve the problem, this sacrifice was nothing.

"But let me be clear, I can cooperate with you in front of Daniel, but once we leave this hospital, don't expect anything else from me."

Michael curled his lips into a wicked smile.

"Isabella, you're overthinking. What else could I want from you?"

They were married, after all. Wasn't it normal for him to have some thoughts?

Even if it got out, it would just show their marital affection.

Nothing more.

But to Isabella, it sounded like his true feelings.

Indeed, in his heart, she never had a place.

That was fine.

At least when they divorced, she wouldn't have to go back and forth with him.

Determined, Isabella looked up at her uncles standing nearby.

Atticus, who cared for her the most, saw her sacrificing herself for Daniel and his eyes instantly reddened.

"Isabella, I know how much you love Daniel, but have you thought about it? If you really plan to act in front of him, you can't back out. Unless Daniel passes away, will you keep acting forever?"

The other uncles shared the same thoughts.

Isabella was the cherished younger member of the Wilson Family, and now she was tying herself to Michael over a single word.

They wanted to expose Michael's intentions in front of Isabella, but seeing Daniel lying on the hospital bed, they couldn't say a word.

Isabella was making this huge sacrifice for Daniel. As his sons, what right did they have to say anything?

Isabella understood her uncles' dilemma, but she didn't want them to bear this burden. She was willing to do anything to save Daniel.

Facing her uncles, Isabella pursed her lips and said seriously, "I just want to see Grandpa wake up safely. I don't care about anything else."

Seeing Atticus and the others still looking serious, Isabella smiled helplessly.

"Uncles, don't be so pessimistic. Even if I reconcile with Michael, I'll still be the same person. Apart from changing where I live, nothing else will change."

Isabella made a promise to her uncles while constantly reminding herself.

Her mind was in turmoil.

She had finally decided to separate from Michael, even if it meant raising their child alone.

But now, things had changed, and she had to bind herself to him again.

She had noticed Michael's changes during this time.

If she got entangled with this new Michael, would she really not fall for him again?

But if she continued living in Grace's house, and Daniel heard any news, she couldn't bear the consequences.

Moreover, she couldn't explain it to Aiden.

With all these problems converging, she had to prioritize the most important one.

For her, Daniel's illness was the top priority.

The atmosphere in the room grew heavy.

At that moment, Isabella felt Daniel's hand move slightly.

Daniel slowly woke up on the hospital bed. The first thing he did upon opening his eyes was to tightly grasp Isabella's hand.

"Isabella."

Daniel's voice was weak and hoarse.

At nearly eighty-eight years old, Daniel had undergone two major surgeries in just a few months. How could it not affect his body?

"Grandpa, I'm here, I'm right here."

Hearing Daniel's voice, Isabella burst into tears.

All her previous thoughts and anxieties became unimportant upon seeing Daniel awake.

She just wanted Daniel to be well.

She was still waiting for Daniel to hold her child.

Daniel wanted to say something more, and Isabella quickly leaned in to save his strength.

"Grandpa, what do you want to say? I'm listening, and the uncles are here too. Tell me who you want to call."

Daniel shook his head, not even glancing at his five sons, and tightly held Isabella's hand with his thin fingers.

"Isabella, you, you all..."

Isabella leaned in closer, and hearing the first half of his sentence, her heart couldn't help but tighten.

Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

Even at this moment, Daniel was still concerned about her happiness.

Even though she was an adult and married, his first thought upon waking from surgery was not to blame her but to care and worry about her.

She took a deep breath, not wanting Daniel to see her distress. "Grandpa, don't worry. Actually, the divorce between Michael and me is fake. We've already reconciled."

Daniel took a breath and then smiled bitterly, "Isabella, don't lie to me. I saw everything. You both went to court. How could you have reconciled?"

"Grandpa, I'm telling the truth."

But Daniel, lying in bed, refused to believe it.

"Stop it, Isabella. I know your temper and how filial you are to me. Did you make up this story to comfort me because you knew I got sick over this?"

Isabella's heart skipped a beat.

Daniel was no fool. How could he not guess her intentions?

But even so, Isabella firmly expressed her willingness to reconcile with Michael.

"Grandpa, if you don't believe me, you should at least believe Michael. He was the one who brought Dr. Gray for you."

Michael quickly stepped forward, standing close to Isabella, and spoke to Daniel.

"Daniel, you heard right. Isabella is telling the truth. We did have some minor disagreements before, but we've reconciled now. Everything is fine."

"Have you really reconciled?"

Daniel stared intently at Michael. If there was even a hint of hesitation in his eyes, Daniel would see through his act.

But Michael's eyes were filled with sincerity.

He reached out and held Isabella's hand, promising Daniel, "Daniel, your wish is for Isabella to live a happy and joyful life. We share the same wish. We've been married for three years. Arguments happen, but we would never divorce over trivial matters."

Michael's words were so heartfelt.

Even Isabella almost got lost in his sweet talk.

Fortunately, she knew he was just acting along with her.
