Chapter 23

The next day.

Isabella put on some makeup and went to the hospital alone.

Daniel had worked too hard when he was young, leaving him with many old injuries. Now that he was older, he had serious heart problems.

He couldn't handle too much stress, and sudden emotional outbursts were out of the question.

This was also why she didn't dare to let Daniel know about the divorce.

But what Isabella didn't expect was that Michael showed up.

He even arrived earlier than she did.

In the hospital room, Daniel lay on the bed. Perhaps because he had just undergone some tests, he looked much worse than he did in the video call last night.

But he was a respected businessman in his younger days, and even in old age, he still exuded a powerful aura.

Years of experience had only made him more convincing.

It was Michael's first time visiting Daniel, and he brought many valuable medicinal gift boxes.

Although it was their first meeting, they didn't seem unfamiliar with each other.

They were chatting and laughing when Daniel looked up and saw Isabella standing outside.

His eyes lit up, "Isabella. Let me see if you've gained any weight. What's wrong with your face? Why is it so red?"

Isabella walked closer, and Daniel immediately noticed something was wrong with her face.

His expression changed, "Who bullied you? Tell me!"

"Grandpa, it's my fault. I bought Isabella a bouquet yesterday, not knowing she was allergic to that kind of pollen." Michael cleverly helped her out.

But Isabella didn't want to see him here.

Not even for a second.

But considering Daniel, she gritted her teeth and explained, "Grandpa, it's just a minor allergy. It's nothing. You know who I am; how could I let anyone bully me?"

Isabella tilted her face to show Daniel. She had used ice to reduce most of the swelling before coming.

Now it just looked red, very much like an allergy.

Daniel frowned with concern, "You must not have taken good care of yourself. How could you have such a severe allergy?"

"It's all my fault. I didn't take good care of Isabella." Michael spoke sincerely, slightly lowering his head as if he were genuinely remorseful.

Isabella couldn't help but roll her eyes secretly.

Michael was such a good actor; no wonder she had been deceived by him all these years without realizing it.

"Alright, alright." Daniel nodded at him, "I don't blame you. You two are still young and have a long way to go. I'm old now, and the family matters will depend on you."

"The doctor said that as long as you rest, you'll recover in two or three months. How can you say you're old? I was thinking of asking you for some chess tips. Grandpa said you were the best back in the day." With just a few words, Michael changed the subject.

Daniel loved playing chess.

Being praised by Michael, his spirits lifted.

He had been worried that Isabella might suffer after marrying Michael, especially since she had forced the marriage with the engagement.

But now it seemed Michael did care about Isabella.

Michael not only came to visit him personally but also knew he liked chess.

He was a thoughtful person.

Sitting by the bed, Isabella glanced at Michael, feeling speechless.

When did Michael learn to play chess?

He was so good at pleasing people; who knew what schemes he had in mind.

"Just pleasing me isn't enough. Your grandpa and I really want to see you have a child soon. Only then can we be at ease." Daniel spoke bluntly.

Michael pressed his lips together and nodded at Daniel, "You're right. Isabella and I should have our own child."

Isabella was stunned.

She thought, 'Is Michael addicted to acting? Having a child? How? Nobody would have a child when getting a divorce!'

Seeing the two of them start discussing children, Isabella quickly spoke up, "Daniel, I've already contacted Dr. Gray and sent him your medical records. Once he responds, your illness will be cured."

Michael looked at her, "Are you talking about Dr. Gray, the founder of the Pioneer Medical Research Institute, Sean Gray?"

"You know him?" Isabella was surprised.

Sean was a top expert in heart treatment.

But he was always elusive and had a unique personality. The consultation fee Isabella offered was enough to support their research institute for a year, yet Sean still hadn't responded.

To show her sincerity, she planned to visit him personally in the coming days. If necessary, she would agree to any conditions Sean proposed.

As long as he could cure Daniel.

Michael raised an eyebrow, "Not exactly. The Brown Group collaborates with Sean's wife's medical company."

Daniel knew Sean's temperament.

He smiled, "Don't worry about me. Sean is eccentric. No need to find him. I know my own body well. If you two have a child, my illness will be cured immediately."

Isabella knew Daniel didn't want to trouble her.

But she was raised by Daniel; how could she watch him suffer without doing anything? "Grandpa, you said it yourself. Taking care of a child is exhausting. You need to get better first to help me take care of the child."

"Alright, alright, I got it." Daniel soon felt tired.

Isabella and Michael said their goodbyes and left the room.

Outside, Isabella thought about what Michael had said and stopped him, "You can contact Sean, right? Only he can save Daniel."

Thomas had tried to invite him before, but Sean was so eccentric that he ignored people he didn't want to see.

But she couldn't wait any longer.

Daniel's condition was worsening; otherwise, he wouldn't look so bad after just a check-up.

Anyone would develop some feelings in three years.

Especially since she was his wife.

Michael couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

He looked down at Isabella blocking his way, a slow smile forming on his lips. He stepped closer, cornering her.

He lifted her chin, his voice low, "Are you begging me?"

Isabella was forced to look up at him. They were so close that she could smell his scent.

The scene of their argument last night flashed through her mind.

She turned her head, "I can give you money. How much do you want?"

Michael sneered, tightening his grip on her chin, forcing her to look at him, "Do you think I need money? Or do you forget that every card you have is from me? Using my money to ask me for a favor, do you think I'm a fool?"

Isabella paused, realizing Michael didn't know she had money.

Biting her lip, she said, "Forget it. I'll find another way."

She raised her hand to push him away.

But Michael grabbed her waist, pulling her even closer.
