Chapter 20

Michael put down his wine glass, his eyes devoid of emotion. "I gave her a chance."

At the Brown Family, he had repeatedly tried to stop her, but she still left.

Ethan sighed. He really didn't understand what was going on between the two of them. All he knew was that Isabella being taken away was a big deal. "If you ask me, you should go check on her. After all, you two aren't divorced yet, and Isabella isn't someone who goes out much. If she gets scared in there, you'll be the one who feels bad."

Michael said, "She went as far as paying a high price to have a child with another man. What would she be afraid of? If I don't teach her a lesson, she'll never know what she did wrong."

Ethan said, "But you didn't have to throw her into the police station just because you're mad at her, did you?"

"Why not? It's not like she can't speak for herself."

Ethan finally understood.

Michael was waiting for Isabella to apologize and admit she was wrong.

One phone call from Isabella, a few soft words, and everything would be fine.

But Isabella wasn't Bianca. After three years of marriage, she left the Brown Family without hesitation when she said she wanted a divorce.

A woman like Isabella would never back down.

"Michael, I'm saying this because you're my friend. If you don't want to lose Isabella, I suggest you go get her out of there as soon as possible. If something irreversible happens, it'll be too late for regrets."

As soon as Ethan finished speaking, Michael's phone rang.

It wasn't Isabella; it was his subordinate, Aaron Hill.

Michael asked, "Did she admit she was wrong?"

Ethan replied, "No, Mrs. Brown didn't mention you. There's another force involved."

Meanwhile, on Isabella's side.

Layla's hand was red from hitting, but she still didn't feel satisfied. Just as she was about to kick Isabella, who remained expressionless, the door was suddenly kicked open.

Dozens of burly men rushed in, filling the room to the brim.

"Isabella!" The loudest voice came from Jesse Turner, who had been protecting Isabella since childhood.

The simultaneous shout from dozens of men made Layla tremble in fear.

Before she could react, her vision went black, and a sharp pain shot through her wrist.

When she opened her eyes again, Isabella was no longer in front of her.

When Layla found Mason, who could stand up for her, she saw the proud Mason bowing his head and apologizing to Isabella.

There were many people around, but Layla couldn't be bothered to look at each one.

She went straight to her brother, holding up her wrist. "Mason, why are you apologizing to her? Look at my hand; Isabella's people did this. Where is she? You should lock her up forever."

"And it was Mr. Brown who called the police. Even if she isn't really divorced from Mr. Brown, he won't want her anymore." The more Layla spoke, the louder her voice became. Everyone in the room, except Isabella, looked grim.

"Layla, shut up!" Mason was sweating profusely. Isabella was not someone he could afford to offend.

Layla had been spoiled since childhood and had no idea what was about to happen.

Just as she was about to point at Isabella and speak again, Mason slapped her hard.

The force of Mason's slap sent Layla sprawling to the ground.

"Mason, you hit me for Isabella." Layla clutched her bleeding mouth, her face numb, looking incredulous.

Mason only wanted to save his own life. The police chief had personally come, and if he didn't say something, he would die a horrible death. "Ms. Taylor, Layla was ignorant and hurt you. I apologize on behalf of her and the Scott Family. This is a small token of my apology; please accept it. And I will make sure to discipline those two subordinates."

He hadn't been there earlier, so he didn't know that Layla had used his name to bring Isabella to the police station and even resorted to private punishment.

Now, even his superiors were alarmed.

Not only could he not explain this to the Brown Family, but if they had really offended some powerful family, the Scott Family would be finished.

Looking at the bank card in front of her, Isabella's expression remained indifferent. She didn't take it. "Keep this money for Layla's plastic surgery."

After all, Mason's slap had disfigured Layla's nose.

Mason swallowed hard, understanding that Isabella had no intention of forgiving Layla easily.

He felt a growing sense of fear.

If Isabella really wanted to take down the Scott Family, it wouldn't even take half a day for them to disappear from Evergreen City.

"Isabella, you bitch! You must have slept with some old man to get this privilege. How dare you say that? I'll kill you!" Having been slapped hard by Mason and publicly humiliated by Isabella and her men, Layla had lost all reason.

She picked up a nearby vase and aimed it at Isabella's face.

If her face was ruined, Isabella wouldn't have it easy either.

But Layla underestimated the men around Isabella. These men were handpicked from elite soldiers.

There was no way they would let Isabella get hurt again.

Without anyone else moving, Ethan, the leader, swept his long leg, sending Layla flying into the wall like trash.

The vase shattered on the ground, and Layla clutched her face and hand, screaming like a ghost.

Mason's face had turned as white as a sheet.

He could already foresee the Scott Family's fate.

Isabella slowly stood up and walked over to Layla.

With her high heels, tall stature, and the imposing presence of dozens of men behind her, just a slight raise of her eyebrow exerted immense pressure.

She lowered her eyes, her voice icy. "Didn't I tell you that you couldn't afford the price of provoking me?"

"You..." Layla tried to curse, but a rag was stuffed into her mouth.

Isabella looked at her with cold eyes. "Did you really think I wouldn't hold a grudge? Don't worry, your punishment is coming."

With that, Isabella raised her hand slightly, and her men immediately understood.

Two of them dragged Layla into the confinement room.

The rest surrounded Mason.

Isabella had been hit, and anyone who had laid a hand on her wouldn't get away.

At the hospital.

Isabella sat in the emergency room, with three doctors attending to her wounds.

In the past, even a minor injury to Isabella would alarm the entire hospital.

Especially given today's situation, Isabella's face was swollen. If it weren't for her reluctance to reveal her identity, the Scott Family would have been wiped out.

Anyone with some status knew the Wilson Family's position.

Whenever the Wilson Family took action, it struck fear into people's hearts.

No one had ever dared to bully Isabella.

Ethan stayed with Isabella in the room, while dozens of burly men in black suits stood outside.

No one dared to approach.

Someone came in to ask what to do about Layla and Mason next.

Ethan's face was cold. "The Scott Family dared to lay a hand on Ms. Taylor. They can forget about staying in Evergreen City. Send them all to Auroria to mine!"
