Chapter 420
Isabella stood there, her face a mask of indifference as she took in the scene around her.
This kind of stuff was for people who still believed in love and marriage. She was on the verge of a divorce and had long since stopped caring about such things.
After leaving Michael, all she wanted was to live the rest of her life in freedom.
Love and marriage? She was done with them.
She no longer let anyone else's happiness or sadness affect her, nor did she care if Michael loved her or not.
From now on, she just wanted to live happily for herself, not for anyone else.
With this realization, Isabella found these things incredibly dull. Just as she was about to leave, she noticed Emilio's reddened ears and the envy in his eyes as he watched others.
It hit her then.
Emilio was still single and had never been married. It was normal for him to want to try these things.
As someone who had been through it, she shouldn't deprive him of the things he wanted to do.
So, Isabella stood under the tree and waited, letting Emilio buy and try it out.
Emilio's eyes lit up instantly. Before Isabella could finish her sentence, he dashed to the stall selling red ribbons.
Isabella shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips.
She had only meant to say that if he was so curious, he should go ahead and try it. As for whether it worked, she didn't know.
Besides, the place was so big that she didn't want to waste all her time there.
But as soon as she pointed out the location, Emilio ran off.
He looked like he was afraid she would change her mind any second.
Emilio quickly returned, carefully hanging the red ribbon he had written on a branch, then bowed reverently to the tree.
Isabella just stood by his side, doing nothing.
What she didn't know was that not far behind her, Michael was watching her and Emilio with narrowed eyes.
They stood side by side, Emilio carefully hanging their red ribbon while Isabella quietly accompanied him.
Their figures looked so well-matched that Michael couldn't help but clench his fists.
Had Isabella really fallen for that guy?
And what right did Emilio have to occupy such an important place in her heart?
Even Nolan hadn't enjoyed such treatment. Who was this Emilio, suddenly appearing and daring to hang a red ribbon symbolizing love with Isabella?
Michael gritted his teeth, wanting to drag Emilio away from Isabella and give him a good beating.
But he couldn't do that.
He kicked a bottle nearby in frustration, not realizing it would hit a child holding a kite.
"Hey! My kite is broken! That guy broke my kite!"
"Mean guy, give me a new kite! My mom bought it for me!"
Michael frowned and looked over, intending to see what had happened. But the child, seeing his dark expression, cried even harder.
Only then did he realize he had accidentally broken the child's toy.
The kite was already fragile, and now it had a hole in the middle. It couldn't be fixed, so he had to buy the child a new one.
"Don't cry. I'll get you a new one," Michael said, trying to keep his voice low so Isabella wouldn't notice.
He reached into his pocket, but it was empty. He had rushed out of the office and forgotten his wallet. He thought about using his phone to transfer money, but it was dead.
Facing the child's expectant eyes, Michael awkwardly said, "I'm sorry, kid. My phone's dead, and I didn't bring my wallet."
The child didn't care about that. He only knew his toy was broken, and the person responsible wasn't making it right.
"Sweetie?" The child's parents, hearing the crying, rushed over and found Michael standing there. They immediately shielded their child, treating Michael like a threat.
"What do you want? Stay away from my child!"
"I'm not-" Michael started to explain, but the child peeked out from behind his parents and loudly accused, "Dad, he broke my kite and won't buy me a new one."
With that, the surrounding crowd turned their attention to Michael, judging him harshly.
"How can young people be so rude, taking a child's toy? Can't you buy your own?"
"Yeah, the kid came here to fly a kite. Just pay for a new one. It's only a few bucks. Why be so stingy?"
"Young man, you can't be so unreasonable."
Michael felt utterly misunderstood. As the CEO of the Brown Group, would he care about a kite worth a few dollars? But he really didn't have his wallet.
Meanwhile, hearing the commotion, Isabella turned to look at the crowd, thinking something interesting was happening. But then she saw a tall, familiar figure.
Michael?
The thought flashed through her mind, but she quickly dismissed it. It couldn't be. She must have been mistaken. Michael should be busy at the Brown Group's office. With the company in turmoil, how could he have time to be here?
With that thought, Isabella quickly looked away.
But Emilio followed her gaze and, despite the crowd, recognized Michael's face. It really was him! Why was Michael here, and at the same time as them?
Emilio hadn't forgotten how deeply Isabella was attached to Michael. If she knew he was here, her thoughts would surely turn to him. But Emilio was also pursuing Isabella. Why should he give her up to Michael?
Emilio pressed his lips together, ensuring Isabella hadn't recognized Michael, then pointed to the scenery. "Isabella, I read online about the sights here. The further we go, the more amazing it gets. Let's go."
"Okay," Isabella nodded, about to leave when she heard a familiar voice.
"I'm not trying to avoid paying. I just didn't bring my wallet."
That voice was unmistakable, even from a distance. Isabella turned abruptly, realizing the tall figure she had seen was indeed Michael.
What was he doing here? And why was he arguing with others?
Isabella squinted, unable to resist her curiosity. She glanced at Emilio. "Emilio, you don't mind if I go check it out, do you? After all, we both know him."
